DARK MATTER HALO TRACKING & MERGER TREE We track huge cosmological structures called dark matter halos, smaller satellite halos and individual dark matter tracer particles as the halos and satellite halos emerge, die, merge and continue to exist over time. We also visualize their merger trees in 3D along with statistical halo information to provide a detailed overview of structural evolution.

We introduce the concept of hierarchical curve-skeleton and describe a general and robust methodology which computes a family of increasingly detailed curve-skeletons. The algorithm is based uponcomputing a repulsive force field over a discretization of the 3D object (voxelized representation) and using topological characteristics of the resulting vector field, such as critical points and critical curves, to extract the curve-skeleton. |
We explore a more active approach to visualization, where a scientist can manipulate a dataset as if deforming a real model. |
The goal of this project is to provide 3D visualization of particle simulations of plasma turbulence. |
